Music of the Baroque seeks a highly motivated and experienced Artistic Operations and Education Manager. This newly created full-time position will support our growing artistic and community commitments. As one of the premier classical music ensembles in the country, the Music of the Baroque Chorus and Orchestra performs works from the 18th century and earlier to the highest level of artistry and excellence. Reporting to the Director of Artistic Operations and Education, the Artistic Operations and Education Manager will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and successful execution of all performances, events, and educational programs, primarily in the Chicagoland area and occasionally on tour. Key duties and responsibilities

 

Artistic Operations

  • Assist with artist services and logistics by arranging hotel accommodations, travel, and hospitality for select guest artists and conductors
  • Facilitate external visa services for foreign guest artists/conductors’ visas as needed
  • Help manage music files and records
  • Support the compilation of archive recordings

 

Production Management

  • Coordinate production aspects for concerts, rehearsals, touring, and other events as assigned by the Director of Artistic Operations and Education, including supervising rehearsals and managing logistics for instrument procurement
  • Evaluate the needs of both chorus and orchestra musicians to ensure smooth setup and breakdown of events
  • Manage and supervise technical and stage crew, including hiring, scheduling, and training
  • Create a comprehensive production schedule and distribute it to staff and venues at least two weeks prior to each production period
  • Manage transportation logistics by liaising with vehicle rental vendors and taking a hands-on approach to ensure timely and safe transport of equipment
  • Oversee post-production tasks, including returning borrowed instruments and preparing payroll for crew members
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors to ensure the proper set-up and operation of sound, lighting, and staging equipment
  • Coordinate with MOB staff to transport front-of-house supplies and merchandise and oversee offsite storage spaces
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment following safety guidelines and regulations

 

Education Program

  • Work with the Director of Artistic Operations & Education to ensure that MOB’s Strong Voices program runs smoothly, including vendor procurement requirements, communicating with Chicago Public School (CPS) choral teachers and MOB teaching artists, implementing program elements, and assisting with the annual Strong Voices grant report
  • Travel to various CPS locations for Strong Voices program as needed

 

Responsibilities also include concert and other artistic and operational duties as required.

 

Candidate Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, preferably in music or arts administration, with 2+ years of operations experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of classical music and the ability to work effectively with musicians, conductors, and artists
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant production software
  • Willingness to work flexible hours in various locations, including weekends and evenings as needed
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, drive vehicles, and work in physically demanding environments

 

Compensation & Benefits

  • $50,000 - $65,000 annual salary range
  • Generous paid vacation days, sick days, and personal days in addition to 11 paid holidays
